About this space
Seventh heaven, in all respects: from the altitude of the location, perched high above th Atlantic waterline, to the heavenly serenity and absolute, utter tranquility, other than birds’ chirping.
Being located at the back country, with the last 750 meters or so of the access being an non-asphalted country road, guests should consider using a high frane car, and stay away from small, low frane and low power budget cars. This, incidentally, is advisable for the island in general too...
It is advisable to time your initial arrival to daytime, as the mentioned, last stretch of road, would be harder to navigate in the dark for the first time.
Out of town as it is, still, in case of emergency the Calheta emergency room is a short drive away.

This sweet and quaint country quinta is perched on a mountainside, rising above, and overlooking the scenic Atlantic ocean and the rolling woods leading to it.

It is an old, upgraded, basalt stones built, farm structure (a "palheiro"), built some 80 years ago, turned into modern residence with all modern conveniences, furnishing, equipment, amenities and comforts.
It has wall mounted climate control system featuring remote controlled AC, heating and dehumidification, multiple channel satellite and smart TV, free WiFi, and a compact sound system.
The quinta features its own, well-lit, gated, driveway, that is completely covered by wide spreading Kiwi fruit climbers, but, alternatively, offers also an easier, ample external parking area alongside its green hedges perimeter.
After the recent 2 rounds of extensive renovations it displays a deliberate combination of two design styles: Modern style living room, with polished cement floor and bedroom, and an open space concept, compact kitchen-dining area, that embodies rustic elements rooted in the place’s history…
The living room sofa is also a pullout bed for the occasional guest.
Both the livingroom and bedroom maintain the basalt stones in plain view.
The bedroom features a stunningly high (4.5 meters) cathedral ceiling and a focus of attention artwork, “The Peacock”, by a local renowned artist, produced solely from drift wood and recycled elements.
In the bedroom you will notice a newly introduced refined line of traditional, blue and white patterned Portuguese azulejos (painted ceramic tiles).
The modest size open space kitchen-dining area zone, is styled with a heavy flavour of the place’s peasant, rustic past: massive use of rustic, barely finished, lavishly varnished wood cabinet doors, a country style rugged sink, and an indoor BBQ. Still, it is equipped with the full range of modern kitchen appliances and amenities. Pod and filter coffee makers, stove, microwave oven, etc.,etc.
The Quinta's water supply comes straight from a natural, fresh water spring, a bit higher up on the mountain.

There are also storage spaces outside, for suitcases and like objects of the traveler.
At the Quinta's exterior, right next to its entrance door, you will enjoy a small patio featuring table and chairs, with unobstructed, panoramic view of endless rolling woods and the ocean. Here, you may have your breakfasts, occasional coffee, a drink of rum or a night cap, while the only sound around is that of birds or a remote Rooster call...
Below this small patio you will notice a small cherimoya (aka “annona”) plantation, engulfed by a rolling forest surrounding it, and you may watch the seasonal works carried out in it...

The Quinta offers also a rooftop, large, tiled patio, its front wall featuring the same, newly introduced, refined line of Portuguese Azulejos, the same as as the main bedroom’s.
This patio too overlooks the vast, panoramic view of the scenic Atlantic below, and features a table, chairs and reclining chairs. Using this patio you will be astonished at the bird chirping and delightful, otherwise utter, utter silence, the like of which you have probably never encountered!
Being well above sea level you DO find yourself, quite literally, in seventh heaven, as you observe, at times, clouds floating slowly, traveling just below you, or even all around you!
Despite it, wall mounted climate control units will keep you warm enough or cool enough as the weather may dictate, and powerful dehumidifiers would counter the humidity.
The place is mere some 3 minute drive from a close by restaurant, the Requinte do Rochao, that offers great Portuguese fare at great prices.

Es handelt sich um ein altes, renoviertes, aus Basaltsteinen erbautes Bauernhaus (ein „Palheiro“), das vor etwa 80 Jahren errichtet und in eine moderne Residenz mit allen Annehmlichkeiten, Möbeln, Ausstattungen und Komfort umgewandelt wurde.
Es verfügt über eine an der Wand montierte Klimaanlage mit ferngesteuerter Kühlung, Heizung und Entfeuchtung, Mehrkanal-Satellitenfernsehen und Smart-TV, kostenloses WLAN sowie eine kompakte Stereoanlage.

The last few hundred meter stretch of driving to the Quinta:
An automatic transmission car should be your car of choice, even if you are a savvy manual transmission driver, due to the island's demanding topography.
When getting close to the Quinta, as soon as you turn into, and enter the little intersection at the 'Requinte do Rochao' restaurant location, quit immediately the asphalt road, before entering its portion alongside the restaurant, and continue, instead, straight ahead into the non-asphalt, country road, then continue to follow Google Maps instructions, which are very good for this last portion of the drive, to reach the Quinta within 3-4 minutes..
Parking:
While the Quinta has its own, gated driveway, the external parking space available, close to (but without hampering!) the plantation's
large metal gate. It can fit more than one car as well. Parking there, rather in the gated driveway, saves you time and manoeuvring and the manipulation of the gate. Especially upon your arrival, but also throughout your stay
This additional external dedicated parking is situated alongside the southern hedges (side pointing to the ocean). See pic. In the photos. All, ss long as the double metal gated entrance to the neighbouring cherimoya plantation is not blocked by your parking.

Aufgrund der anspruchsvollen Topografie der Insel sollten Sie ein Fahrzeug mit Automatikgetriebe wählen, selbst wenn Sie ein erfahrener Fahrer mit Schaltgetriebe sind.
Wenn Sie sich der Quinta nähern und in die kleine Kreuzung am Restaurant „Requinte do Rochao“ einbiegen, verlassen Sie sofort die asphaltierte Straße, bevor Sie auf den Abschnitt neben dem Restaurant abbiegen, und fahren Sie stattdessen geradeaus weiter auf die unbefestigte Landstraße. Folgen Sie dann weiterhin den Anweisungen von Google Maps, die für diesen letzten Abschnitt der Fahrt sehr gut sind, um die Quinta innerhalb von 3–4 Minuten zu erreichen.
Parken:
Die Quinta verfügt zwar über eine eigene, mit einem Tor gesicherte Zufahrt, doch steht ein externer Parkplatz in der Nähe (ohne jedoch zu behindern!) des
großen Metalltors der Plantage zur Verfügung. Dort finden auch mehrere Autos Platz. Wenn Sie dort parken statt in der mit einem Tor gesicherten Zufahrt, sparen Sie Zeit, Manövrierarbeit und das Öffnen und Schließen des Tors. Insbesondere bei Ihrer Ankunft, aber auch während Ihres gesamten Aufenthalts
Dieser zusätzliche, eigens dafür vorgesehene Parkplatz befindet sich entlang der südlichen Hecken (auf das Meer zu gerichtete Seite). Siehe Foto. Auf den Bildern. Vorausgesetzt, das doppelte Metalltor zum Eingang der benachbarten Cherimoya-Plantage wird durch Ihr geparktes Auto nicht blockiert.

I acquired it since I love the island, nature and the local people and culture. Hint .. My wife is Portuguese, and I proposed to her on this very Island, long ago! A local team of professionals a personal friends will address all needs or emergencies, and I will also always be available as well. Being a music lover of all genres, from pop to blues, jazz and classical, I felt that my place would be a haven for musicians, and placed a quality Kawai electric piano in it, and even left some challenging piano scores there!🙂 After gaining my master degree in philosophy, specializing in the philosophy of mathematics, and writing a published paper about Bertrand Russell, I bowed out if academia... Ran a few businesses... Was granted a few patents and utilized them... and now I am relaxing with my two rescue dogs: one from an Inuit community (a white Siberian husky) and one from Jordan (a white Bedouin desert dog). In the past 3 years I have served as a remote adviser and counsel to a large dog shelter in Jordan. Alas, my small place and its furnishing cannot accommodate pets... My apologies! On Flatio, you have a variety of payment methods to choose from. You can use your card, payment gateway or bank transfer. Just pick the one which suits you the most.
How you can cancel a booking varies depending on what stage the booking is in.
Is your booking request still waiting for host approval? Then you can simply cancel it directly from your My Housing web app!
However, suppose the owner has already approved your booking request, and you are no longer interested in it. In that case, you can still cancel the booking before you sign the lease agreement. Just consider that you should do this only in essential cases. Because when the host accepts your booking, the property is stopped being advertised, and they can lose the chance to rent their property to someone else.
Do you have an approved booking and also a valid agreement? In order to cancel your booking, contact Flatio customer support well in advance of your contract beginning (the specific time and amount of refund depends on the type of cancelation policy).

Wir garantieren eine vertrauenswürdige Präsentation der Wohnung. Bei Flatio können Sie sich darauf verlassen, dass die Wohnung tatsächlich so aussieht, wie sie präsentiert wird. Und wenn der Zustand der Wohnung mit dem im Angebot beschriebenen Zustand doch nicht übereinstimmt, dann zahlen wir Ihnen alles, die Miete sowie die Gebühren, zurück und dazu übernehmen wir für Sie Hotelkosten für 7 Tage.

Eine gemütliche Verlängerung. Möchten Sie länger in der Wohnung bleiben? Kein Problem. Hat der Besitzer die Wohnung für Sie frei, dann erfolgt die Verlängerung des Vertrages online. Genauso einfach ist die Kündigung des Vertrages mit einer Kündigungsfrist von 30 Tagen, die auch online erfolgt.

Alles in einem Preis. Die monatliche Miete schließt Dienstleistungen einschl. Internet und Energien ein und wird nicht berechnet, wenn sie 25 % der monatlichen Zahlung nicht überschreitet. Dadurch sparen Sie eine Menge Administrative bei der Wohnungsübergabe.

Stets nur 30 Tage im Voraus. Es spielt keine Rolle, ob Sie zu Beginn oder Mitte des Monats einziehen, die Miete wird stets für 30 Tage im Voraus gezahlt. Bei Flatio wird der „Monat“ immer durch Sie bestimmt und Sie müssen nicht mehrere Mieten gleichzeitig bezahlen.

Stay Benefits won’t apply - Coverage by deposit
For bookings of 180 days or longer, the host requires a refundable deposit.
Please note that the deposit is a full substitute for the Stay Benefits plan. Therefore, this plan that includes extra liability and assistance service insurance won’t be applied to this booking.
Nevertheless, rest assured that you will continue to be covered under our standard StayProtection package, only with the Stay Benefits excluded.

If you cancel your booking 14 days or more before the move-in date, you’ll get a refund of the entire first rent.
If you cancel your booking up to 7 days before the move-in date, you’ll get a refund of half of the first rent.
If you cancel your booking less than 6 days before the move-in date, you won’t get a refund of the first rent.

Der Gutschein kann für Ihre nächste Reservierung verwendet werden und ist 12 Monate gültig. Wenn die Servicegebühr für Ihre nächste Reservierung niedriger ist als der Gutscheinbetrag, stellen wir Ihnen einen neuen Gutschein über den Restbetrag aus, der 12 Monate gültig ist.
