In a nutshell first, this quaint Quinta is likely and arguably one of the most nature nestled and tranquility imbued location around.
A one bedroom wonder, harmoniously, lovingly and and lavishly renovated to combine an old time, some 90+ years old, rustic, basalt stone farm structure, and its country style, period kitchen, with fully modernized, upgrades, in terms of looks, design and equipment, forming together a cozy and comfy nest, unlike any other. Plain & simple!
The upgraded farm style kitchen flows, as open space, into a modern quaint dining space, which flows, in turn, into an alluring modern, modest size living room, equipped with TV, small sound system, a styley pull out bed (for the occasional guest), and a quality Kawai piano!
A modern spacious bathroom awaits to spoil you as well as a most outstanding, intimate, bedroom, notable for its high cathedral ceiling with an imposing artwork piece ("The Peacock" by a known local artist).
The outdoors include, other than fruit trees, heavily kiwi fruit bearing climbers as well, greenery all around, and two separate patios: a rooftop, larger one, and an intimate one down below, both offering you a fantastic scenic view of the rolling green mountainside, rolling down onto the Atlantic at its bottom, where you'd find a free, sandy beach, a Marina, and a glorious and affordable restaurant row.

Ponta do Sol adjacent, a piano, and a shot of locally distilled rums of international fame, await you upon your arrival at this Arco da Calheta, upgraded, historical small country estate. It's, quite literally, Heaven on Earth!
All, merely ~11 or so minute drive from Ponta do Sol, the sandy beach downhill here, with its adjacent marina and restaurant row, as well as a supermarket (Pingo Doce) and a pharmacy.

The Quinta (a country estate) enables its dweller, with its utter tranquility and quietness, to focus on all concentration demanding projects, hence, it is ideal , with its free wifi, for digital nomads, or, alternatively, be a couples’ heaven and haven, musicians’ treat and retreat, rum lovers’ indulgence nest and proximity to a rum distillery, birders’ paradise, perched in the perfect place, and hiker's place to go to: this Quinta is surrounded by some of Madeira's famous 'Levadas' --open, cement water conduits -- criss crossing the island, painstakingly constructed on mountainous Madeira, starting in the 15th. century, now a hikers' hiking mecca!

Massive renovations managed to seamlessly combine the historic elements of the Quinta, with modern looks, conveniences and appliances.
It has wall mounted climate control system featuring remote controlled AC, heating and dehumidification, multiple channel satellite and smart TV, free WiFi, and a compact sound system.
The quinta features its own, well-lit, gated, driveway, that is completely covered by wide spreading Kiwi fruit climbers, but, alternatively, offers also an easier, ample external parking area alongside its green hedges perimeter, to its south (the side of the Atlantic).
After the recent 2 rounds of extensive renovations this Quinta, or Quintinha (small estate) displays a deliberate combination of two design styles: Modern style living room, with polished cement floor, and modern looks bedroom, with high cathedral ceiling and architectural spot lightings and candelabra, and an open space, compact kitchen-dining area, that embodies rustic elements rooted in the place’s history and actual condtruction…
The living room sofa is also a pullout bed for the occasional guest.
Both the livingroom and bedroom maintain the almost century old basalt stones in plain view.
The bedroom's stunningly high (4.5 meters) cathedral ceiling and its focus of attention artwork, “The Peacock”, are rather imposing.
The "Peacock" was created by a local renowned artist, assembled solely from local drift wood and recycled elements.
In the bedroom you will notice a newly introduced refined line of modern interpretation of traditional, blue and white patterned Portuguese azulejos (painted ceramic tiles).
The modest size open space kitchen-dining area zone, is styled with a heavy flavour of the place’s peasant, rustic past: typical to the period massive use of rustic, barely finished, lavishly revarnished wood cabinet doors, a country style rugged, carefully restored sink, and an indoor BBQ. Still, it is equipped with the full range of modern kitchen appliances and amenities. Pod and filter coffee makers, stove, toaster, microwave oven, etc.
The Quinta's water supply comes straight from a natural, fresh water spring, a bit higher up on the mountain.
There are also lockable storage spaces outside, for suitcases and likewise volumunous objects of the traveler.
At the Quinta's exterior, right next to its entrance door, you will enjoy a small patio featuring table and chairs, with unobstructed, panoramic view of endless rolling woods and the ocean. Here, you may have your breakfasts, occasional coffee, a drink of rum or a night cap, while the only sound around is that of birds or a remote Rooster call...
Below this small patio, mere feet (or meters...) away, you will notice a small cherimoya (aka “annona”) plantation, engulfed by a rolling forest
surrounding it, and you may watch the seasonal works carried out in it...
Adjacent to this patio is a stand alone shed with a washer-dryer.
Stretching from the front small patio is the yard’s greenery, complete with a fruit bearing (in season) lemon and plum trees, and a hammock to relax next to them…
The Quinta offers also a rooftop, large, tiled patio, its front wall featuring the same, newly introduced, refined line of Portuguese Azulejos, the same as as the main bedroom’s.
This patio too overlooks the vast, panoramic view of the scenic Atlantic below, and features a table, chairs and reclining chairs. Using this patio you will be astonished at the bird chirping and delightful, otherwise utter, utter silence, the like of which you have probably never encountered!
Being well above sea level you DO find yourself, quite literally, in seventh heaven, as you observe, at times, clouds floating slowly, traveling just below you, or even all around you!
Despite it, wall mounted climate control units will keep you warm enough or cool enough as the weather may dictate, and powerful dehumidifiers would counter the humidity.
The place is mere, some 3 minute drive from a close by restaurant, the Requinte do Rochao, that offers great Portuguese fare at great prices.

Upon arrival you may expect 2 bottled shots of the locally, Calheta distilled rum, now gaining international fame. The Madeira rum is of the rarer style known as Rum Agricole, and is the only European rum of this type, which is made from distilled freshly extracted sugar cane juice, unlike most rums that are distilled from molasses, a byproduct of the sugar industry.
You will find in the living room books about rum as well...
But the best welcome package you'd encounter is the utter silence, serenity, disturbed only, during the day, by the constant bird chirping and singing. Guaranteed!

Sie verfügt über ein wandmontiertes Klimasystem mit ferngesteuerter Klimaanlage, Heizung und Entfeuchtung, Satelliten-TV mit mehreren Kanälen und Smart-TV, kostenloses WLAN und eine kompakte Soundanlage.

Das Sofa im Wohnzimmer ist auch ein ausziehbares Bett für den gelegentlichen Gast.
Sowohl im Wohnzimmer als auch im Schlafzimmer bleiben die fast hundert Jahre alten Basaltsteine sichtbar.
Die beeindruckend hohe (4,5 Meter) Kathedralendecke des Schlafzimmers und ihr Blickfang, das Kunstwerk "Der Pfau", sind recht imposant.
Der "Pfau" wurde von einem renommierten einheimischen Künstler geschaffen, ausschließlich aus lokalem Treibholz und recycelten Elementen zusammengesetzt.
Im Schlafzimmer werden Sie eine neu eingeführte, raffinierte Linie moderner Interpretationen der traditionellen blau-weiß gemusterten portugiesischen Azulejos (bemalte Keramikfliesen) bemerken.
Der offene Küchen-Essbereich bescheidener Größe ist stark vom bäuerlichen, rustikalen Charakter der Vergangenheit des Ortes geprägt: typisch für die Zeit mit reichlich rustikalen, kaum bearbeiteten, aufwendig neu lackierten Holzschranktüren, einer rustikalen, sorgfältig restaurierten Spüle im Landhausstil und einem Indoor-Grill. Dennoch ist sie mit der gesamten Palette moderner Küchengeräte und Annehmlichkeiten ausgestattet. Pad- und Filterkaffeemaschinen, Herd, Toaster, Mikrowelle usw.
Die Wasserversorgung der Quinta kommt direkt aus einer natürlichen Frischwasserquelle etwas weiter oben am Berg.
Außerdem gibt es abschließbare Abstellräume im Freien für Koffer und ähnlich sperrige Gegenstände von Reisenden.
Außen an der Quinta, direkt neben der Eingangstür, genießen Sie eine kleine Terrasse mit Tisch und Stühlen und ungehindertem Panoramablick auf endlose sanfte Wälder und den Ozean. Hier können Sie frühstücken, gelegentlich Kaffee trinken, einen Rum genießen oder einen Absacker nehmen, während das einzige Geräusch ringsum Vogelgesang oder der ferne Ruf eines Hahns ist...
Unterhalb dieser kleinen Terrasse, nur wenige Fuß (oder Meter...) entfernt, sehen Sie eine kleine Cherimoya-Plantage (auch "Annona" genannt), umgeben von einem sanft ansteigenden Wald, und Sie können die saisonalen Arbeiten dort beobachten...
Neben dieser Terrasse steht ein frei stehender Schuppen mit Waschtrockner.

Die Quinta bietet außerdem eine große, geflieste Dachterrasse, deren Vorderwand dieselbe neu eingeführte, raffinierte Linie portugiesischer Azulejos zeigt wie im Hauptschlafzimmer.
Auch diese Terrasse überblickt den weiten Panoramablick auf den malerischen Atlantik unten und bietet einen Tisch, Stühle und Liegestühle. Auf dieser Terrasse werden Sie vom Vogelgezwitscher und der wunderbaren, sonst völligen, absoluten Stille überrascht sein, wie Sie sie wahrscheinlich noch nie erlebt haben!
Da Sie weit über dem Meeresspiegel sind, befinden Sie sich tatsächlich buchstäblich im siebten Himmel, wenn Sie beobachten, wie Wolken manchmal langsam knapp unter Ihnen oder sogar rings um Sie herum ziehen!

Hello there! I am a Canadian national, and owner of the listed property on the beautiful Madeira Island, located on a road in countryside setting, in upper Arco da Calheta, short drive to Ponta da Sol, the digital nomads hub, and to the Calheta beach. I acquired it since I love the island, nature and the local people and culture. Hint .. My wife is Portuguese, and I proposed to her on this very Island, long ago! A local team of professionals and craftspeople, that gathered to execute this quinta's renovation project with me, as a labour of love, and who are familiar with all the aspects of it and its maintenance, will address and tend to all needs or emergencies, and I, as well, will always be available to listen & resolve issues, if any. Being a music lover of all genres, from pop to blues, jazz and classical, I felt that my place would be a haven for musicians, and placed a quality Kawai electric piano in it, and even left some challenging piano scores there!🙂 After gaining my master degree in philosophy, specializing in the philosophy of mathematics, and writing a published paper about Bertrand Russell, I bowed out of academia... Ran a few businesses... Was granted a few patents and utilized them... and now I am relaxing with my two rescue dogs: one from an Inuit community (a white Siberian husky) and one from Jordan (a white Bedouin desert dog). In the past 3 years I have served as a remote adviser and consultant to a large dog shelter in Jordan. Alas, this small place and its furnishing cannot accommodate pets... My apologies! More importantly, the place is super strictly no smoking, vaping, etc. zone. Please do respect and abide most strictly. If you are a smoker, it is advisable, therefore, not to rent this place. The memory of renting this place with its breathtaking view of the Atlantic and utter silence will remain with you for long...!
