Enter from the promenade to the ground floor where is the kitchen with plenty of storage, induction hob, electric oven, washing machine, microwave, fridge with freezer, kettle and toaster. Table and two comfortable chairs to enjoy the fresh food Madeira has to offer. The bathroom with shower is also at the ground floor. Take the inside stairs to first floor where is the bedroom with a built-in wardrobe for clothes. The bedroom has two windows facing the sea to the South-West and one facing South-East. Take the inside stairs to second floor where you have a desk with two chairs, sofa for two and an internet connected TV. The internet installed is fast (500Mbps) fiber connection with strong WIFI throughout the house. Because of the South-West facing of the house, you will experience many romantic sunsets over the ocean.

A local grocery store called “O brinquinho” is three minutes walk.
There are vendors that come weekly with their vans on the street bringing fresh bakery products, fruit and vegetables. Two minutes walk towards the port you have three restaurants with meat, fish and vegan dishes. More bars and restaurants exist in the other side of the village.

There are public busses during weekdays to Calheta and Funchal. You can change the bus at Ribeira Brava for example for more connections. Use the Rome2rio website or the Rodoeste company website to see the up-to-date schedules. There are a few taxi drivers that live in Paul do Mar, one parking next to the restaurants area. There’s plenty of car parking reserved for the street residents, including one spot in front of the house. The house has an electricity socket (220V) outside and can charge an electric car or scooter.

Ocean temperature ranges from a min of 18° in winter to 25° in summer, thanks to the Gulf Stream warm ocean current. The winter and spring attracts surf enthusiasts from around the world. It was an amazing months spent in Madeira, with the best view of the ocean and sunset every day!

The house is incredibly cozy. Every inch of the house has been thoughtfully designed. We found everything needed for everyday life: dishes, appliances, home textiles, etc.

The town is small but beautiful. There are several hiking trails nearby, as well as gardens with bananas, mangoes and other fruits.

Alex is just the best landlord! It was a pleasure to be your guest. Thank you for the hospitality! We would be happy to stay at the house again, it felt like a real home to us.

The location is beautiful - not only can you shake hands with the ocean and hear it singing. you to sleep at night, there is an excellent hike minutes from your door that will keep you fit! The home is cosy, clean, and has everything you need to be comfortable. The windows are well placed so you can enjoy fresh air and sunshine. The WIFI is great and will work for anyone doing remote work or wanting to stream Netflix. Alex is the best landlord we've ever had, by miles. He was very patient in answering all my questions before we moved it and really wanted to be sure it was the right place for us. He was an amazing tour guide, showing us some great places on our first day and orientating us to the neighborhood. You can have complete trust in him, which is refreshing and rare. We will visit Paúl do Mar again soon and would stay at Alex's flat anytime!
Neighborhood
Very safe neighborhood. It is a sleepy fishing village, so there's really only 1 small shop that has basic toiletries, food supplies, and alcohol. There are produce vans that come about 4 times a week and the vegetables and fruit are very fresh and economical. There are some excellent places to eat in town with nice prices as well. I give it a 6 only because of the limited variety. Even without a car, we could get by, but it might not be comfortable for most people. The bus has very limited routes and times and taxis are quiet expensive (but an easy option to find) to get in and out of Paúl do Mar.
Recommended places nearby
Beach Bar (fresh fish, some vegan food, very relaxed atmosphere), Bar O Ideal (the octopus dish is amazing), Bar de Pescadores (very reasonable prices and has a local experience, good for watching futbol games too). Villa Amour has excellent pastries and nice coffee beverages with probably the best ambience). Bar de Lapas is nice all around and very relaxed, but seating is limited. Calhaus Beach Bar is a place you can sit for a long time without anyone bothering you and have snacks or just a drink.

The perfect house for a beach/surf lifestyle. It is very well equipped, with everything you could possibly need and a 2 second walk from the sea and 2 minute walk to the nearest bars and restaurants - location wise it doesn’t get any better. We do however highly recommend getting a car as there are no real supermarkets in the village and public transport is limited.

Alex is super friendly and will ensure you have a proper Madeiran experience . We left feeling like we had made a friend rather than just met our landlord.
Neighborhood
It is a small, chill fishing village with incredibly friendly and welcoming locals. The bars can be lively with live music and dj’s every now and then.
